André Escamilla
Andre Escamilla uses elements of science to ask questions about color, form and materials within his work. He uses oil paint for its organic properties, but also incorporates other materials like glass, wood, and acetate. His work shows that the creative and the methodical have more in common than previously thought. Currently he is examining the viewership of art work in a given space. Escamilla suspends oil paint between glass in different solutions and hangs them from the ceiling. The reference to microscopic slides is made to bring the same analytical attention found in a lab to the gallery. He wants the viewer to dissect the color palette, the nature of the material, and the interaction that occurs between objects.
Andre Escamilla’s current and future projects show emphasis on form and aesthetics as a means of highlighting this intersectionality.
